According to a press release, AmaWaterways<\/a> plans to explore new ways to enhance the sustainability of river cruising and minimize fuel consumption.<\/p>\n

Rudi Schreiner, cofounder and president of AmaWaterways, said, “Sustainability is the top priority of every travel company.”<\/p>\n

”Each of our ships and every itinerary we operate is thoughtfully designed to minimize fuel consumption, but we are also committed to minimizing our impact on the local community”, he said.<\/p>\n

Our two newest ships are currently being constructed in Colombia by our team of architects, designers and suppliers. This partnership ensures that not only are we utilizing and honoring the natural resources and culture of this beautiful destination, but that we are also improving the lives of local residents along the Magdalena River as many will open up to international tourists for the first time.<\/p>\n

Its AmaKristina river cruise ship became the first ship in the industry to receive the Green Award in 2019 for its safety, quality, and environmental impact. A total of 19 ships from AmaWaterways’ fleet have been recognized since then.<\/p>\n

Select staterooms on the AmaMagna<\/a> will feature solar panels on their awnings in 2023, in an effort to reduce fuel usage.<\/p>\n

A new navigation system, River Track Pilot, is also being tested by the company to optimize fuel consumption.<\/p>\n

As part of the effort to reduce food waste by up to 30%, AmaWaterways has also replaced breakfast and lunch buffets with a la carte menus. Meanwhile, Zambezi Queen and AmaMagna come equipped with plenty of eco-friendly features.<\/p>\n

There is a five-stage water purification system on the Zambezi Queen, and a hybrid diesel\/electric power system on the AmaMagna, which reduces fuel consumption and noise levels.<\/p>\n
