Holland America Line has now completed the installation of shore power on all of its ships, beginning with the Volendam.<\/p>\n

A full day of electricity was supplied to the Volendam by the port’s shoreside electricity on September 27 as part of its installation in Vancouver, British Columbia.<\/p>\n

Having the entire Holland America Line<\/a> fleet connected to shore power is a significant milestone in Holland America Line’s sustainability efforts. \u201cOur legacy of exceptional onboard care extends to caring for the planet,\u201d said Gus Antorcha, president. Through a variety of initiatives, including shore power, we’re on our way to reaching our goal of reducing our carbon emissions intensity by 20 percent by 2030. As more ports around the world adopt shore power capability, we look forward to connecting with them.<\/p>\n

With shore power, the cruise line’s ships travel to Juneau, Alaska, New York, San Francisco and San Diego, California, Seattle, Washington, Halifax, Montreal, Vancouver, Norway, and Kristiansand, Norway; Kiel, Germany; and Shanghai and Xiamen, China, among other destinations.<\/p>\n

With the introduction of its four Vista Class ships in 2006, Holland America Line started converting its ships for shore power connectivity.<\/p>\n

As of now, the Eurodam<\/a> and Nieuw Amsterdam<\/a> have been successfully installed with a partial shore power system, whereas the Pinnacle Class ships (Koningsdam<\/a>, Nieuw Statendam<\/a>, and Rotterdam) do not yet have them.<\/p>\n

Along with shore power, the company uses biodegradable or paper-based alternatives to single-use plastics onboard and also bans single-use plastics from its fleet.<\/p>\n
