AmaWaterways has announced a new City Escapes program designed to give travelers more time to explore Europe\u2019s most iconic destinations. The new itineraries will sail along the Seine River, Rhine River, and Danube River starting in 2026, with additional sailings expanding in 2027.<\/p>\n
According to the cruise line, the program focuses on longer city stays, overnight docking, and daylight sailing, allowing guests to explore destinations at a more relaxed pace. These special departures are scheduled during quieter travel periods, helping travelers enjoy popular European cities with fewer crowds and more time to discover local culture.<\/p>\n

Unlike traditional river cruises that often move quickly between destinations, the City Escapes itineraries focus on extended stays of 24 hours or more in major European cities.<\/p>\n
Guests will have additional time to explore destinations such as Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Strasbourg, and Budapest. The itineraries are designed to balance immersive shore excursions with scenic daytime sailing, creating a slower and more enriching travel experience.<\/p>\n
On the Seine River, travelers will spend extended time in Paris, where they can explore the historic \u00cele de la Cit\u00e9, home to the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral. Guests can also wander through the charming streets of Le Marais or take a guided bike ride along the Left Bank.<\/p>\n
Additional experiences include visits to the Louis Vuitton Foundation and the Marmottan Monet Museum, along with onboard culinary demonstrations showcasing classic French desserts.<\/p>\n
Further along the itinerary, guests can explore Normandy\u2019s historic sites, including the D-Day landing beaches, the harbor town of Honfleur with tastings of local cider and Pommeau, and the modernist architecture of Le Havre.<\/p>\n
In Rouen, travelers can join guided walking tours through the medieval city, sample regional cuisine, visit historic ch\u00e2teaux, or explore the Rouen Museum of Fine Arts.<\/p>\n
City Escapes sailings on the Rhine River highlight picturesque towns and cultural landmarks across France, Germany, and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
In Colmar, guests can join a walking tour that includes the Bartholdi Museum, dedicated to the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty. Excursions also explore the Alsatian wine region and the hilltop Ch\u00e2teau du Haut-K\u0153nigsbourg.<\/p>\n
Travelers visiting Strasbourg can discover the historic city center on guided tours or cycling excursions. In Germany, the program includes visits to Heidelberg for its famous Old Town and Cologne for culinary tastings and architectural tours.<\/p>\n
The itinerary also features scenic cruising through the legendary Rhine Gorge before concluding in Amsterdam, where travelers can visit the renowned Rijksmuseum.<\/p>\n
On the Danube, the journeys combine extended scenic cruising with immersive cultural experiences across Central Europe.<\/p>\n
Guests will enjoy sailing through landscapes such as the Wachau Valley and the Danube Bend before exploring cities along the river.<\/p>\n
Highlights include guided tours of Budapest and hikes to Gell\u00e9rt Hill. In Bratislava, guests can stroll through the Old Town and enjoy local beer tastings.<\/p>\n
In Vienna, the program features a cultural evening with dinner and a concert at the House of Strauss.<\/p>\n
Other stops include Linz, a UNESCO City of Media Arts, with optional day trips to Salzburg or the fairytale town of \u010cesk\u00fd Krumlov.<\/p>\n
The cruise concludes in Passau, known as the \u201cCity of Three Rivers,\u201d where travelers can enjoy walking tours, food tastings, and visits to traditional pretzel bakeries.<\/p>\n
Along with the new itineraries, AmaWaterways is also introducing pre- and post-cruise extensions in London and Rome.<\/p>\n
The Rome extension includes visits to Vatican City and other historic landmarks, while the London program features a guided tour of Westminster and an evening theater experience in the famous West End.<\/p>\n
