MS Mode, formerly known as MS Midnasol, is named after Roald Amundsen's 1917 'Maud', one of the most famous polar ships of all time. The original "Maud" was named after the current first Queen of Norway. She also gave her name to Hurtigruten's 1925 flagship DS Dronning Mode ("DS Queen Mode").

The current MS mode is equipped with advanced technology and is very suitable for expedition cruising in Norway.

Unique Features

MS Mode is a more sustainable expedition vessel. It is equipped with a battery pack that supports the ship's engine and significantly reduces emissions. When the ship is in berth, power is taken from shore to avoid shore emissions.

Additionally, the ship's engines have been upgraded to low emission engines that comply with all current and planned regulations.

Gratuities

It is not customary to tip Hurtigruten ships on coastal voyages. However, tip boxes are placed inside the restaurant with envelopes if it is felt that flight attendants should be rewarded for outstanding service.
