Top 5 Best Things to do in Panama

Visiting Panama City, Panama? Do you need something to do? Panama City will likely be on your itinerary for at least one or two days, whether you are taking a boat cruise through the canal or going to one of Panama's luxury islands. Planning your trip to Panama City will be easier with these things to do.

1. Shell Island

Shell Island is not an island, but it is a seven-mile-long, uninhabited barrier island perfect for anyone looking to spend some quality time on the sand. Long stretches of beach offer the opportunity to shell; visit rare bird, plant, and wildlife communities, and get plenty of time to tan and relax. There are various options for private tours; from helicopter tours to catamaran rides to airboat rides, pick the one that best suits your budget and style.

Take in the magnificent marble altar at the Metropolitan Cathedral blessed by Pope Francis. A total of eight hardwood baroque altars are on display in the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi.

One of Old Town's oldest colonial houses, Casa Gongora, will delight tourists. Founded in 1756 by a Spanish pearl merchant, the house is an example of early colonial architecture. A museum assists visitors in exploring the historic site. On this route, several other museums can also be found. Learn about the 192 different countries that contributed to the construction of the Panama Canal at the Panama Canal Museum. From the 1500s to the present day, the Panama History Museum covers most periods of Panama's history. Religious artifacts dating back to the 16th century can be found at the Museum of Colonial Religious Art.

3. Stay on the Beach

Beach lovers come to Panama City's beach to swim, play, relax, socialize, and soak up the sun. The beach is the city's centerpiece and is popular with locals and tourists. At Panama City Beach, there are 27 miles of dazzling white sand, and the shallow waters are ideal for younger kids and unbelievably inviting in the summer heat. A significant landmark along the waterfront is City Pier, where many beach volleyball games are played, and young people socialize. Pier Park is directly across the street from the wooden pier with its shops and restaurants. Taking a break here for lunch or catching some shade is an excellent idea. Summer and fall are peak times to book beachfront hotels and condominiums on the shore. If you want to enjoy the tranquility or the view, you can grab a great deal in the off-season.

4. Panama City Beach Conservation Park

The PCB Conservation Park lies on just under 3,000 acres of uplands and wetlands and is an excellent destination for hiking, biking, bird-watching, and wildlife spotting. The park's trails range in length from a half-mile to 12 miles, totaling 24 miles. Boardwalk sections are located on a couple of these trails, so strollers and wheelchairs can use them efficiently. The dirt paths are generally level, allowing everyone to use them. Some routes have towering pine trees. Picnic areas and restrooms are available as well. The park also offers guided Audubon walks and naturalist programs. It is also free to enter.

5. Go Canoeing, Stand Up Paddleboarding, Kayaking, and Boating

To make your cruise even more memorable, boat tours are a great way to explore marine life, access snorkeling sites, or sail in Panama City. There is a wide range of shore excursions ranging from Sea-Doo to canoe, stand-up Paddleboarding, kayaking, dolphin sightseeing, and water sports and activities. Even several companies offer fishing charters and catamaran sailing trips. But remember that many adventure sports are season specific and are not provided in the low season, and reservations are highly recommended.

Best Time to Visit

When the island is dry during December and April, it is best to visit Panama. It will be crowded with holidaymakers. However, to see the beach, May through October, is perfect. The region experiences 320 days of sunshine per year. Still, the warmest temperatures are during the late spring, summer, and early fall. In addition, if you avoid the peak seasons of March and April, you'll prevent the influx of college students who descend on the ivory sands for spring break every year. It will be chilly enough to enjoy the ocean during the area's low season (November to February).
