Hamburg Highlights

Listed below are some highlights from Hamburg that you should not miss!

1. Local Cuisine Scene

There's nothing similar to hamburgers in Hamburg's food. A popular meal for lunch or dinner is blathering, a fish marinated in vinegar and fried. Herring is the most common fish here. In contrast, Hamburger Hummersuppe is a creamy lobster soup, while Hamburger sweets include Franzbrotchen pastry and Hamburger Speck.

2. Local Shopping Market

Various budgets and tastes are catered for when it comes to shopping in Hamburg. Among the most famous department stores in the city is Alsterhaus, which can be found on Jungfernstieg, as well as Mönckebergstrasse, the most prestigious shopping street in Hamburg, Neuer Wall, and Grosse Bleichen, which houses high-end labels such as Hermes, Cartier, and Armani. In addition to numerous covered malls, the city also has several famous shopping arcades, including Galleria, Hanse-Viertel, Hamburger Hof, and Europa Passage. There are many typical gifts to choose from, such as Buddelschiffe (miniature models of ships in bottles), Hummel figures, German glühwein, and locally crafted items.

3. Beyond Hamburg

A day trip out of Hamburg is easy to find around the city. The city of Lübeck is one of the most historic in northern Germany, and a visit to the city offers the chance to see its history. There are more than 100 hectares of beautiful streets in Lübeck's Old Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In northern Germany, Lüneburg is another Hanseatic city worth exploring. The medieval town of Lüneburg is renowned for its quaint cafes and bars and its beautiful harbor. It is known as the "City of White and Gold." The city of Travemünde, just north of Lübeck, offers an exquisite soft sand beach with a 100-year-old promenade and gardens.

Interesting Spots to Visit in Hamburg

What makes this city the gateway to the world? The city is Germany's second largest. Aside from the incredible nightlife and fabulous food scene, this city has more than 50 museums and 40 theaters. An innovative, friendly city that doffs its cap to tradition, Hamburg's best things to do touch on the many lives of this community.  Get a taste of Hamburg by tasting gourmet cuisine and the sinful lights of the Reeperbahn.

1. Hafen City

Located on the shores of the harbor, HafenCity comprises the Speicherstadt. With 12,000 homes and up to 40,000 jobs to be created over the next 15 years, HafenCity is partially built on reclaimed land in the Elbe. Outside of the heritage quarter, the architecture of the free port is creative and cutting-edge. Imagine glossy office towers, apartment complexes, and leisure facilities designed with panache and sensitivity to their waterfront location. To date, the main attraction in Hamburg is the Elbphilharmonie concert hall.

2. Port of Hamburg &Speicherstadt

The Hamburger Hafen, known as HafenCity, is the gateway to Germany and encompasses 100 square kilometers of the tidal harbor. On summer evenings and weekends, it's also a popular spot for residents to chill and visit many of the city's tourist attractions. With its continuous lines of brick buildings that are used to store tobacco, coffee, dried fruit, and spices, the Speicherstadt is home to a charming pedestrian trail. In 2015, UNESCO designated the warehouse district as a World Heritage Site, as it was built between 1883 and 1927.

3. Neuwerk Island

You can enjoy a beautiful morning trip to Neuwerk island if you're spending a few days in Hamburg. It's part of the Wadden Sea national park, a natural area away from the city buzz. One of the locals' favorite holiday destinations is Neuwerk, located about 100km from Hamburg and home to only 40 people. Hamburg's flag and lighthouse have flown there for 700 years, protecting the shipping trade upstream into the city and serving as a natural signpost.

4. Chocoversum

It's hard to imagine how it would be to become Charlie and visit Willy Wonka's chocolate factory if we weren't all Charlie, right? The Chocoversum warehouse complex is situated near Speicherstadt, a district of warehouses. Visitors to this chocolate extravaganza tour the factory, learn about the art of chocolate making, and, of course, indulge in delicious chocolate treats throughout the day. Customized chocolate bars can even be created here for you to take home.

5. Miniatur Wunderland

At Miniatur Wunderland, you can see miniature models of cities, railway systems, ports, and airports from around the world. Every single thing you see here is detailed and even moves like its real-life counterpart. Model trains cruise along the 15,400-metre-long track at the museum's model railway exhibit, one of the attraction's most popular attractions. As well as 50,000 human figurines, Miniatur Wunderland features a replica of Hamburg, including Hagenbeck Zoo, Hamburg Central Station, and St. Michaelis Church.
