A port city and the most important town in the municipality of Velsen, IJmuiden is located in the Dutch province of North Holland. In proximity to Haarlem, it lies approximately 17 kilometers north of the North Sea Canal to Amsterdam. IJ is considered a ligature in Dutch, so it is capitalized internally because it is a digraph. 1. North Sea Canal

Built between 1865 and 1876, the North Sea Canal allowed seafaring vessels to reach the port of Amsterdam by passing through the North Sea. Amsterdam is connected to the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal through this artificial channel, which terminates at the closed-off IJ Bay. Bloemendaal, Velsen, and Zandvoort are the municipalities in which it is located. There is a southern portion of Kennemerland included in this region. Dunes are a feature of south Kennemerland. Aside from the beach, the park covers a total area of 38 square kilometers (15 square miles).

4. Zaanse Schans

This neighborhood is located near Zaandijk in Zaandam, the Netherlands. Historic windmills and houses have been preserved well in this area. A lowboy trailer was used to relocate old buildings from the Zaanstreek between 1961 and 1974. Near the first Zaanse Schans windmill is the Zaans Museum, established in 1994. Located along the European Route of Industrial Heritage, it is a popular tourist attraction in the Netherlands. It is estimated that 1.6 million visitors visited the neighborhood in 2014.
