The Red Sea is nearly 35 percent saltier than other seas around the world. The salt in the water is rich in minerals and offers numerous health benefits. Just like the Dead Sea in Jordan, which is saltier than the Red Sea, you can boost your blood circulation when you swim in the Red Sea. The salt and mineral content in the water also can work wonders with skin conditions.
You cannot go on a Red Sea cruise and not make time for scuba diving. The water is home to colorful fish, sea turtles, and several other marine life. The bed of the sea has shipwreck dating back to World War II that you can explore. Also, you will find many wrecks of boats, tankers, and ships that are now home to marine life. If you are not into scuba diving, you can still check the treasures of the Red Sea by opting for snorkeling.
Hurghada is located on the eastern shore of Egypt. It is a popular resort destination and renowned for its water sports. You can head to the beach to enjoy fishing, parasailing, sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling, and diving. You will find that coral reefs submerged under the water are close to the beach and worth exploring. Alternatively, you can go for a day trip to the small islands off Hurghada to soak up the sun at pristine and secluded beaches or enjoy snorkeling and diving. If you are a golf enthusiast, you can improve your handicap at the golf resorts at Soma Bay, just south of Hurghada.
Sharm el-Sheikh is one of the most popular beach resorts in Egypt. It is located in the Sinai Peninsula and just next to the Red Sea. Make time to visit the Shark’s Bay and Na’ama beach where you can dive and snorkel in the crystal clear waters.
The resort town of Eilat is located at the shores of the Red Sea, in the southern part of Israel. It is a hub for water sports and has a vibrant and colorful nightlife. The town attracts many visitors as it enjoys a warm climate and is quite scenic with the backdrop of undulating mountains and stark desert. The water of the Red Sea in this area is clear and perfect for diving and snorkeling. Here, you will be able to visit the Coral Reserve for some coral reef diving or head to the Underwater Observatory Marine Museum. Make sure you also take time to visit the Dolphin Reef where you can get close and personal to a school of dolphins.
You can also plan a day trip to Wadi al-Gimel, which is the Eastern Desert of the Red Sea. Once there, you will be able to explore the Sikait, an archeological site. You will be able to see a small temple in the honor of goddess Isis in the cliff face and also see the ruins of the homes that were occupied by emerald miners from the Roman era. Nearby, there are the ruins of Nugrus, where the emerald mine was situated. Be sure take in the landscape. It will mesmerize you – the desert, the rugged mountains, and acacia trees make a compelling view.
These are some of the fun and interesting activities that you can enjoy when you are on a cruise of the Red Sea.
