A press release from Carnival Cruise Line said the company’s entertainment team is helping students set sail for success with its Internship at Sea program.
Youth Staff, Fun Squad, Technicians, and Sports Staff members from 24 different U.S. universities joined cruise ships as part of the cruise line’s program.
As vice president of entertainment, Chris Nelson says, “We’re thrilled to bring back this unique entertainment internship program that provides a fantastic learning experience for college students and our crew,” We should create these special opportunities in order to inspire the next generation and create memorable cruise holidays for years to come.
The internship program offers hands-on experience while interns gain teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills while earning college credit. A mentor is assigned to each student to assist them in transitioning from student life on land to life on board.
There have been 65 students who have participated in the Internship at Sea since it began in 2016. Many former interns have taken up a variety of roles in the cruise industry after graduating from the program, including cruise director and shoreside project manager.
WayUp, a U.S.-based job site for college students, named Carnival’s Internship at Sea program one of the top 100 internship programs in the country in 2019. In 2020, COVID-19 halted the program.
