Norwegian Cruise Line to Continue Beverage Packages at Great Stirrup Cay

By Cruise Booking Team

Norwegian Cruise Line has officially confirmed that it will continue honoring its beverage packages at its private island destination, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. The decision comes after receiving strong feedback from guests and travel partners, reversing an earlier plan that would have altered the way drinks were offered on the island.

Guests Can Enjoy a Seamless Drink Experience Onshore

In a statement shared with booked guests, Norwegian Cruise Line emphasized that passengers with Free at Sea or More at Sea beverage packages will continue to receive the same drink benefits on the island as they do onboard.

The company explained:

“After receiving feedback from our guests and travel partners, guests with Free at Sea or More at Sea beverage packages will continue to enjoy the same beverage package inclusions as they do onboard.”

This means travelers won’t need to worry about additional purchases when stepping ashore. Norwegian highlighted that the goal is to create a smooth and consistent experience, where guests can enjoy their drinks without interruption.

The cruise line also reminded passengers that beverage packages can still be purchased up to 24 hours before sailing.

Previous Policy Change and Guest Backlash

This announcement marks a significant shift from Norwegian’s earlier decision. In October 2025, the company announced plans to discontinue honoring onboard beverage packages at Great Stirrup Cay.

Under that proposal, guests would have needed to upgrade to the Free at Sea Plus package to access unlimited alcoholic drinks while on the island. The change was initially scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2026.

However, after facing criticism and concerns from both travelers and travel advisors, Norwegian delayed the rollout earlier this year and has now fully reversed the decision.

Enhancements Coming to Great Stirrup Cay

Alongside the policy update, Norwegian Cruise Line also shared exciting details about ongoing improvements at Great Stirrup Cay. The private island is currently undergoing a major enhancement project aimed at improving guest convenience and overall experience.

According to the company:

“Our focus remains on ensuring every guest can fully enjoy all the island has to offer.”

Key New Features Include:

Despite these upgrades, Norwegian confirmed that popular features such as open beaches, family-friendly spaces, and existing amenities will remain central to the island experience.

Focus on Guest Satisfaction and Flexibility

The reversal of the beverage policy reflects Norwegian Cruise Line’s broader commitment to guest satisfaction. By listening to feedback and adapting its plans, the company aims to maintain a high-quality, stress-free vacation experience.

The ability to use beverage packages seamlessly between ship and shore is seen as a key part of that experience, especially for travelers who value all-inclusive cruise offerings.

What This Means for Cruise Travelers

For passengers planning a cruise with Norwegian, this update brings clarity and added value. Guests can now enjoy:

As the island enhancements continue, it’s expected to become an even more attractive highlight of Caribbean itineraries.
