Oceania Cruises Reveals New Sonata-Class Ships and Fleet Updates

By Cruise Booking Team

Oceania Cruises has announced the launch of a brand-new ship class, Sonata Class, marking a significant step forward for the premium cruise brand. The first ship in this series, named Oceania Sonata, is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and will debut in summer 2027.

The Sonata will be followed by a sister ship, Oceania Arietta, expected to join the fleet in 2029. These vessels are part of a record-breaking order placed by parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings with the Italian shipbuilder.

Weighing in at 86,000 tons and accommodating around 1,450 guests, these will be the largest ships in Oceania’s fleet. The cruise line says the Sonata-class ships will be their most spacious and amenity-rich vessels yet, ushering in a “new era in refined luxury cruising.”

Oceania promises groundbreaking design, exceptional culinary experiences, and destination-focused travel aboard both the Sonata and Arietta. Unlike previous ships, these two new Sonata-class vessels will include the Oceania prefix in their names, emphasizing their connection to the brand.

In addition to the Sonata-class ships, Oceania is preparing to welcome another vessel to the Allura class. Named Allura, this 1,200-guest ship is a sister to Vista, which launched in 2013. The Allura is nearing completion at the same shipyard and is set to begin sailing in the Mediterranean in July 2025.

As part of ongoing fleet updates, Oceania will retire one of its oldest vessels, the Insignia, at the end of 2027. Built in 1999, the ship will complete its farewell season in South America and Europe before being transferred to Crescent Seas, a new luxury residential cruise company.
