Best things to do in Baltimore

Baltimore is a city full of energy, culture, arts, and adventure, and it's always beckoning adventurers, explorers, artists, and dreamers. Let the expansive city awaken your senses, inspire you and free your inner adventurer. Consider our list of unforgettable attractions.

1. Inner Harbour

Inner Harbour is the heart of the city. Since the 18th century, the city has been a major seaport and is now the center of its activities. There is an expansive 7-mile brick waterfront promenade connecting the harbor to downtown and some of Baltimore's biggest attractions. Visit a boutique mall or watch a street performance and spend the day walking and shopping. There are three major attractions within walking distance, the Maryland Science Center, the National Aquarium, and the USS Constellation Museum. Take a water taxi or visit Federal Hill Park to get a good view of the harbor.

2. National Aquarium

With over 17,000 animals and 750 species of fish, marine mammals, and sharks on display at the National Aquarium, located right on the Inner Harbor, it is an architectural wonder. Children will enjoy this exhibit as it transports them into natural marine habitats worldwide. The aquarium also offers numerous behind-the-scenes experiences like teaching dolphins' tricks alongside the specific viewing areas. A variety of animals can also be found at the National Aquarium, including crocodiles, sloths, and foxes. It is good to devote an entire day to exploring the aquarium.

3. Faidley's Seafood

Known for their golden-fried crab cakes the size of a softball, Faidley's Seafood is legendary. Baltimore cuisine is based on Maryland crab, which creates the quintessential Baltimore dish when baked into a moist cake and fried. Faidley's offers better-than-ever crab meat and a prime location inside the historic Lexington Market. The decor is eccentric yet charming. There are a few communal high tables for mingling while taking in the quirky atmosphere. Additionally, Faidley's has a raw bar where exotic fare frequently appears on the menu, such as frog legs.

4. Baltimore Museum of Art

Located next to John Hopkins University, the Baltimore Museum of Art is a renowned institution that attracts art lovers worldwide. Having started with just one work of art, the collection has now grown to include over 95,000 pieces from masters such as Andy Warhol, Picasso, and Cézanne. There is an impressive 1,000-piece Matisse collection within the Cone Wing, donated a few decades ago by a couple of sisters from Baltimore. There is also a sculpture garden and regular summer jazz sessions in the Contemporary Wing, home to works by women and artists of color. The museum is entirely free, and for dinner, it offers local Chesapeake Bay cuisine at Gertrude's.

5. The Maryland Zoo

The Maryland Zoo is a beautiful place to visit in Baltimore, which you can find hidden in bucolic Druid Hill Park, a 745-acre expanse in the heart of Baltimore. The zoo is not only one of the country's oldest, dating back to 1876, but it also houses over 1,500 animals from 200 kinds of species. There are 85 African black-footed penguins and white-breasted cormorants in the zoo's award-winning penguin exhibit. This penguin species breeds in an area that recreates its native habitat in South Africa, the most successful breeding colony in North America.
