Disney Fantasy vs. Disney Dream: Which Ship Should You Book?

Can't pick between Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream? Compare shows, dining, cabins, itineraries and real fares to choose the right ship.

By CruiseBooking.com Editorial Team

Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream are nearly identical sister ships, so your sailing dates and itinerary matter more than the ship. Choose the Dream for short, low-total-cost Bahamas cruises of 3 to 4 nights. Choose the Fantasy for longer trips of up to 10 nights, including Bermuda, plus its Aladdin and Frozen shows and Pixar Day at Sea on select sailings. Schedules and fares here are as published in September 2026.

How Similar Are Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream?

About as similar as two ships can be. Both were built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, from a single Dream-class blueprint. The Dream debuted on January 26, 2011, and the Fantasy followed on March 31, 2012. Their hulls, deck layouts, and cabin numbering match, so a midship verandah on Deck 8 of one ship sits in exactly the same spot on the other.

Spec Both Ships
Gross Tonnage ~130,000
Length 1,115 ft
Passenger Decks 14
Staterooms 1,250
Guests 2,500 double occupancy; ~4,000 maximum
Crew ~1,458

The shared list covers almost everything guests use day to day: three rotational restaurants, adults-only Palo and Remy, the Cabanas buffet, the AquaDuck water coaster, family and adult pools, Goofy's Sports Deck, the Walt Disney Theatre and Buena Vista Theatre, Senses Spa & Salon, and the full youth lineup from the It's a Small World Nursery through the Oceaneer Club and Lab, Edge, and Vibe.

Recent refits made them even more alike. The Dream's October 2024 dry dock and the Fantasy's October–November 2025 dry dock each added a two-story, 2,030-square-foot Tower Suite inside the forward funnel, an expanded Hercules-inspired concierge lounge, refreshed Senses Spa treatment rooms, and Ramone's Cantina on Deck 11. Both also moved the Edge tween club to Deck 5, beside Vibe.

Disney Fantasy vs. Disney Dream: Key Differences

Onboard Activities and Attractions

Both ships share the AquaDuck, a 765-foot water coaster that carries two-person rafts through a clear tube four decks up, including one stretch suspended over the side of the ship. Below it is the same pool-deck lineup: Donald's family pool facing the Funnel Vision screen, Mickey's Pool with its slide, Nemo's Reef for small children, and the AquaLab water-play area. Adults get the Quiet Cove pool on Deck 11 and the Satellite Falls splash pool and rain curtain on Deck 13.

You may see older comparisons list AquaLab, Satellite Falls, and the Funnel Puddle wading pool as Fantasy exclusives. They were in 2012, but all three were added to the Dream in its 2015 dry dock, so the water features are now identical. So are Goofy's Sports Deck (mini-golf, basketball, soccer, sports simulators), the Midship Detective Agency game, and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The sweet shops differ only in name: Vanellope's Sweets & Treats on the Dream, Sweet on You on the Fantasy.

The one real exclusive is Pixar Day at Sea, a themed sea day with character meets, a deck party, and Pixar programming on select 5-night Port Canaveral sailings on the Fantasy, returning from January 2027. The Dream has no themed sea day on its published schedule.

Verdict: a tie on hardware, with the Fantasy ahead on themed sailings.

Entertainment

This is the clearest onboard difference. Each ship rotates three Walt Disney Theatre productions:

  • Dream: Beauty and the Beast, Disney's Believe, and The Golden Mickeys
  • Fantasy: Disney's Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular, Frozen, A Musical Spectacular, and Disney's Believe

Beauty and the Beast is a full Broadway-style production and the Dream's strongest card. The Golden Mickeys, an awards-show revue, is the oldest format on either ship. The Fantasy's Aladdin and Frozen give it two large-scale musicals and strong appeal for younger kids. Three-night cruises usually fit only two of the three shows, so the shortest Dream sailings may skip one.

The rest is shared: the Sail-Away deck party, Pirate Night with fireworks at sea, movies, character meet-and-greets, D Lounge game shows, and live music. At Animator's Palate, both ships run the Undersea Magic dinner show with Crush. The Fantasy alone adds Animation Magic, where guests' drawings are animated and set to music, on sailings long enough to dine there twice.

Verdict: Disney Fantasy.

Dining

The rotational dining plan is the same: you dine at three main restaurants, with the same serving team each night. Animator's Palate is a black-and-white animation studio that fills with color as dinner goes on. Enchanted Garden is a Versailles-inspired conservatory whose ceiling shifts from daylight to a starry night. The third restaurant is the same French-inspired, princess-themed concept under different names: Royal Palace on the Dream and Royal Court on the Fantasy. Disney refreshed the dinner menus across its original four ships in May 2026, so both ships serve the same generation of menus.

Casual options match too: the Cabanas buffet, Luigi's Pizza, Tow Mater's Grill, Fillmore's Favorites, Ramone's Cantina, soft-serve stands, Vista Café, Cove Café for adults, and 24-hour room service. On both ships, adults-only Palo (Northern Italian) and Remy (French) sit on Deck 12 aft, with the Meridian bar between them. Palo brunch is offered only on sea days, which is a plus on longer cruises.

Verdict: a tie.

Kids' Experiences

Age groups and clubs match: It's a Small World Nursery (6 months to 3 years, hourly fee), the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab (ages 3–12, included), Edge (11–14), and Vibe (14–17). The differences are in the Oceaneer Club's themed rooms:

  • Dream: Andy's Room, Pixie Hollow, the Star Wars: Millennium Falcon cockpit, and the Marvel WEB Workshop (a Spider-Man-themed lab, added in 2024)
  • Fantasy: Andy's Room, Pixie Hollow, Star Wars: Command Post with its holotable, Marvel Super Hero Academy, and the interactive Magic PlayFloor

Add the Fantasy's Frozen musical and Pixar Day at Sea, and it holds a small edge for kids roughly 4 to 10. For toddlers, or families testing whether cruising suits them, the Dream's 3-night sailings are the lower-commitment choice.

Verdict: Disney Fantasy, narrowly.

Adult Experiences

Daytime adult spaces are identical: Quiet Cove with Cove Café, Satellite Falls, the Senses Spa Rainforest Room, Palo, Remy, and Meridian. The nighttime districts differ completely in theme:

Venue Type The District (Dream) Europa (Fantasy)
Hub Lounge District Lounge La Piazza (carousel-inspired Italian square)
Champagne Bar Pink (Dumbo-style pink elephant theme) Ooh La La (French boudoir)
Pub 687 (named for the Dream's shipyard hull number) O'Gills (Irish pub)
Nightclub Evolution (butterfly motif) The Tube (London Underground)
Skyline Lounge Skyline (rotating city skylines) Skyline (rotating city skylines)

Europa feels more transporting, since The Tube and O'Gills feel like places rather than rooms. The District counters with Pink, the wittier champagne bar, and Evolution, the larger dance floor. Neither ship has a casino.

Verdict: personal taste, with a slight Fantasy edge for atmosphere.

Cabins and Staterooms

Stateroom categories, layouts, and locations are identical. Roughly 88% of the 1,250 staterooms have an ocean view and about 70% have a verandah. Approximate sizes:

Category Size
Standard Inside 169 sq ft
Deluxe Inside 200 sq ft
Deluxe Oceanview 204 sq ft
Deluxe Family Oceanview 241 sq ft
Deluxe Oceanview with Verandah 246 sq ft
Deluxe Family Oceanview with Verandah 299 sq ft
Concierge Family Oceanview with Verandah 306 sq ft
Concierge One-Bedroom Suite 622 sq ft
Concierge Royal Suite 1,781 sq ft
Tower Suite (sleeps 8) 2,030 sq ft

Signature Disney touches appear on both ships: split bathrooms in most categories above Standard Inside, Magical Portholes in inside staterooms showing a live exterior view with animated characters, and raised beds with luggage storage underneath. Both refits also reclassified 24 Deck 10 family verandah staterooms as Concierge category. Because the Fantasy's refit is a year newer, its soft goods may feel the freshest.

Verdict: a tie.

Itineraries: Disney Fantasy vs. Disney Dream

For years the split was clear: the Dream sailed 3- and 4-night Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral while the Fantasy ran 7-night Caribbean cruises. That changed when the Disney Wish, Treasure, and Destiny took over Florida's main rotations. Both ships now rotate homeports by season. Here are the deployments published as of September 2026:

Period Disney Dream Disney Fantasy
Fall 2026 Fort Lauderdale (after a September transatlantic from Southampton): 3- to 6-night Bahamas, plus 7-night Eastern Caribbean Port Canaveral: 3- to 5-night Bahamas, including Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime
Jan–Apr 2027 Fort Lauderdale as above; April: 7-night Southern Caribbean from San Juan, plus one-way legs Port Canaveral: 3- to 5-night Bahamas; Pixar Day at Sea on select 5-night sailings
May–Aug 2027 Port Canaveral: 3- and 4-night Bahamas Port Canaveral: 4- and 5-night Bahamas and Caribbean; one 10-night Southern Caribbean (July 11)
Sep–Nov 2027 Port Canaveral: 3- and 4-night Bahamas, including Halloween and Very Merrytime sailings Port Canaveral: 4- and 5-night Bahamas and Western Caribbean (Cozumel and Castaway Cay)
Dec 2027–May 2028 Fort Lauderdale: 3- to 5-night Bahamas, plus one 6-night sailing with two Castaway Cay days San Juan: 7-night Southern Caribbean. Fort Lauderdale: 4- to 8-night Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean, including the ship's first Bermuda cruise (8 nights, March 18, 2028)

Both ships call at Disney's two private Bahamian destinations, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, plus Nassau. Homeport matters for logistics. Port Everglades is about 15 minutes from Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, while Port Canaveral is 45 to 60 minutes from Orlando International and about an hour from Walt Disney World.

Which Is Better for a Short Vacation?

Disney Dream. It offers regular 3-night sailings through spring 2028, and those carry the lowest total fares of either ship. Fort Lauderdale is also the easiest port for flights. From late April 2027 it adds 3- and 4-night cruises from Port Canaveral, which suit a Walt Disney World add-on. The Fantasy's last 3-night cruises are on its October 2026–May 2027 schedule, and from summer 2027 its shortest option is 4 nights. For 4- and 5-night trips the two are interchangeable, with the Fantasy adding Pixar Day at Sea on select dates.

Which Is Better for a 7-Night Cruise?

Disney Fantasy, but watch the dates. The Dream's 7-night sailings are limited to Fort Lauderdale Eastern Caribbean cruises from October 2026 to April 2027 and one San Juan Southern Caribbean sailing in April 2027. After that, nothing on its schedule runs longer than six nights. The Fantasy offers a 10-night Southern Caribbean cruise on July 11, 2027, then 7-night Southern Caribbean sailings from San Juan (December 2027, April 29 and May 6, 2028), 7-night Eastern Caribbean sailings from Fort Lauderdale starting December 2027, and two 8-night cruises in spring 2028, including its first Bermuda sailing. These longer trips also give you Animation Magic and the full three-show lineup. From May through November 2027, neither ship runs a 7-night cruise (the Disney Treasure fills that gap from Port Canaveral).

Which Is Better for Families With Kids?

Both were designed as family ships, and the shared lineup (AquaDuck, Nemo's Reef, AquaLab, youth clubs, character meets, Pirate Night, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique) covers most of what kids remember. The Fantasy's Frozen musical, Pixar Day at Sea, Marvel Super Hero Academy, and Star Wars: Command Post give it more appeal for ages 4 to 10, while the Dream's Millennium Falcon cockpit and Beauty and the Beast are its best cards.

Trip length can matter as much as the ship. A 3-night cruise squeezes everything into one island day and two show nights, while 4 and 5 nights allow a sea day, a second island, and every production.

Verdict: Disney Fantasy for most families. Disney Dream for a first, short trial cruise or for families within driving distance of Fort Lauderdale.

Which Is Better for Adults?

The adults-only footprint is identical, so the decision comes down to nightlife and trip length. Europa on the Fantasy is the more atmospheric district, while The District on the Dream has the better champagne bar in Pink. Longer sailings favor adults: sea days bring Palo brunch, extra nights make it easier to book both Palo and Remy, and Southern Caribbean and Bermuda itineraries appeal more than a repeat Nassau call. School-holiday departures fill with families on either ship, so adults without kids may prefer off-peak dates.

Verdict: Disney Fantasy for a week away. Disney Dream for a quick couples' escape from Fort Lauderdale.

Disney Fantasy vs. Disney Dream: Price Comparison

When you compare like with like, the ships cost almost the same. These are opening-day fares for two guests, including taxes and port fees but excluding gratuities, for the fall 2027–spring 2028 season. The Fantasy sailing is January 8, 2028 and the Dream sailings are January 24 or 31, 2028, so all are in the same off-season month.

4-Night Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale (Jan 2028) Inside Oceanview Verandah Concierge
Disney Dream $2,120 $2,248 $2,496 $5,048
Disney Fantasy $2,154 $2,282 $2,538 $5,114

That's a gap of under 2% in every category, so the ship isn't what drives your price. Length, date, and port matter more. Here are other reference points:

Sailing Inside Verandah Notes
Dream, 3-night, Jan 7, 2028 $1,690 $1,972 Lowest total on either ship
Fantasy, 7-night Eastern Caribbean, Jan 30, 2028 $3,566 $4,196 Lowest per night (~$509 inside, ~$599 verandah)
Dream, 4-night, Dec 30, 2027 $4,584 $5,080 Holiday
Fantasy, 7-night, Dec 26, 2027 $7,611 $8,437 Holiday

Across the Fantasy's entire September 2027–May 2028 season, average fares for two came to about $642 per night inside, $679 oceanview, $744 verandah, and $1,562 concierge. Port-intensive Caribbean weeks and holidays push those averages higher.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Disney Fantasy bigger than Disney Dream?

No. Both are about 130,000 gross tons and 1,115 feet long, with 14 passenger decks, 1,250 staterooms, and room for roughly 4,000 guests at maximum capacity. Any differences in published figures come down to rounding.

What is the difference between Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream?

The main differences are décor (art nouveau versus art deco), the adult nightlife district (Europa versus The District), stage shows, two Oceaneer Club rooms, the Fantasy-only Animation Magic dinner show, and, most importantly, itineraries and homeports.

Which is better, Disney Fantasy or Disney Dream?

Neither is better overall. The Dream suits shorter, lower-cost 3- and 4-night trips, while the Fantasy offers longer Caribbean and Bermuda itineraries plus the Aladdin and Frozen shows and Pixar Day at Sea. Pick your itinerary and dates first, since the ships are otherwise very similar.

Which is cheaper, Disney Fantasy or Disney Dream?

It depends how you measure. The Dream has the lowest total fare because it runs 3-night cruises (from about $1,690 for two in an inside cabin). The Fantasy's 7-night sailings can cost less per night. On comparable 4-night Bahamas cruises, fares differ by under 2%.

Are Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream sister ships?

Yes. Both are Dream-class ships built by Meyer Werft in Germany. The Dream debuted in January 2011 and the Fantasy in March 2012. They share the same dimensions, deck plans, stateroom categories, and restaurants.

Which ship is better for a first Disney cruise?

The Dream is the easier first cruise if you want a short, budget-friendly 3- or 4-night trip. The Fantasy is a better fit if you want a longer sailing or your kids love Frozen or Pixar.

Do both ships have the AquaDuck water coaster?

Yes. Both ships have the 765-foot AquaDuck, plus the same pools, AquaLab, and Nemo's Reef. The water features have been identical since the Dream's 2015 dry dock.

Which ship has better shows?

The Fantasy has the edge, with Aladdin and Frozen musicals. The Dream's best show is Beauty and the Beast, but it also runs The Golden Mickeys, the oldest format on either ship.

Fares are opening-day, per-two-guests prices including taxes and port fees, excluding gratuities, and are subject to change. Itineraries and schedules were may be revised. Confirm current prices and sailings online before booking.
