Three New Cruise Ships Planned by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings

By Cruise Booking Team

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NCLH) has announced a new agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the design and construction of three new cruise ships, reinforcing its long-term fleet expansion strategy. The order includes one vessel each for Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, with deliveries scheduled between 2036 and 2037.

All three ships will be built at Fincantieri’s shipyards in Italy and will serve as sister ships to previously announced vessels: a next-generation Norwegian Cruise Line ship, a sister ship to Oceania Sonata, and a sister ship to Seven Seas Prestige. The agreement secures shipyard capacity through the end of 2037, supporting the company’s measured growth approach and future competitiveness.

Strategic Growth and Industry Positioning

NCLH President and CEO John W. Chidsey said the partnership reflects a disciplined strategy focused on innovation, brand strength, and long-term shareholder value. He emphasized that securing shipyard capacity ensures the company can expand its fleet while maintaining financial discipline and strengthening its balance sheet.

The company noted that the new order involves modest initial capital outlays, enabling it to remain focused on reducing leverage while investing in next-generation ships designed to enhance guest experiences and operational efficiency.

Fleet Expansion Supports Long-Term Growth

Following this agreement, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings now has 17 newbuilds on order across its three brands:

This pipeline supports an expected 4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2026 to 2037, aligning with NCLH’s disciplined expansion strategy and focusing on modern, efficient vessels.

Focus on Sustainability and Next-Generation Ships

A key feature of the expansion is the inclusion of methanol-ready ships and advanced environmental technologies. These vessels are designed to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and support the cruise industry’s transition toward cleaner fuels and more sustainable operations.

The next-generation ships will also feature updated onboard amenities, enhanced entertainment offerings, and refined dining experiences tailored to evolving traveler expectations across contemporary, premium, and ultra-luxury segments.

Outlook for the Upcoming Cruises

The announcement underscores Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ confidence in sustained demand for cruise travel, particularly in premium and luxury segments. By investing in new ships across its three brands, the company aims to strengthen its global market position while offering travelers more innovative, sustainable, and diverse cruise experiences in the years ahead.

With deliveries scheduled through 2037, NCLH’s fleet expansion reflects a long-term vision focused on growth, environmental responsibility, and elevated guest experiences across its portfolio.
