Princess Cruises has officially announced the signing of three new shipbuilding agreements with renowned Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The agreement covers the construction of three next-generation cruise ships based on an advanced new platform designed to enhance guest experience, sustainability, and onboard innovation.
The new ships will be part of the cruise line’s evolving fleet strategy and are expected to significantly strengthen its long-term growth in the global cruise industry.
The newly announced ships will be delivered in phases, late 2035, 2038, and 2039, respectively. These vessels will introduce a new “Voyager Class” platform, which will build upon the success of Princess Cruises’ existing Sphere Class ships while introducing upgraded design concepts and modern guest-focused innovations.
Each ship will measure approximately 183,000 gross tons and will have the capacity to accommodate around 4,700 passengers, making them among the largest and most advanced ships in the fleet.
The cruise line has stated that the design details, onboard features, and entertainment concepts will be revealed closer to the launch timeline, as development continues over the coming years.
A key highlight of this order is its focus on cleaner energy. The ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is widely considered one of the cleaner transitional marine fuels currently available.
This move aligns with the broader environmental and modernization goals of parent company Carnival Corporation & plc, which continues to invest in next-generation ships that reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency across its fleet.
With these additions, Carnival Corporation’s LNG-powered fleet will expand further as part of its long-term sustainability roadmap.
According to Princess Cruises President Gus Antorcha, the Voyager Class will be designed to balance innovation with the brand’s most successful features. The cruise line aims to attract both loyal returning guests and new generations of travelers by refining and enhancing every aspect of the onboard experience.
Key areas of development will include:
The company emphasized that no area of the ship will remain untouched, signaling a full-scale redesign approach rather than incremental updates.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, highlighted the importance of the agreement in reinforcing the long-standing partnership between the shipbuilder and Princess Cruises. The deal secures continuous shipyard activity for years to come and supports the company’s industrial strategy through 2039.
He also emphasized that the new Voyager Class ships will utilize advanced shipbuilding techniques and sustainable technologies, reinforcing Fincantieri’s role in shaping the future of modern cruise design.
The three new ships represent Carnival Corporation’s 19th, 20th, and 21st LNG-powered vessels, reflecting a broader strategy of fleet modernization and expansion. The company continues to invest heavily in next-generation cruise platforms that combine energy efficiency, digital innovation, and premium guest experiences.
These ships will also build on the foundation of the award-winning Sphere Class, further evolving Princess Cruises’ reputation for offering large-scale yet experience-focused cruise vacations.
