Pride of America Delayed by Hurricane Lala as Honolulu Port Closes

By CruiseBooking.com Editorial Team

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America was forced to delay its return to Honolulu after Hurricane Lala brought adverse weather conditions to Hawaii over the weekend.

The cruise ship was originally scheduled to arrive at Honolulu Harbor on Saturday, August 15, 2026, ahead of its next seven-night interisland Hawaii cruise. However, the port closure prevented the ship from docking as planned.

Pride of America eventually arrived in Honolulu on Sunday, August 16, one day later than scheduled. Norwegian Cruise Line notified embarking guests that check-in would remain open until 9:00 p.m. local time.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this weekend’s weather-related delays,” Norwegian said in a message to guests.

The cruise line added that it had received clearance to begin embarkation and check-in while it worked to finalize the updated itinerary.

The ship’s original seven-night itinerary was scheduled to include visits to Hilo and Kailua-Kona, along with overnight stays in Kahului and Nawiliwili.

Norwegian Spirit Also Delayed in Honolulu

Pride of America was not the only Norwegian Cruise Line ship affected by the storm.

The Norwegian Spirit, built in 1999, also had to postpone its scheduled arrival in Honolulu. The ship was originally due to reach the port on August 16, but adverse weather pushed the call back to August 17, 2026.

Passengers booked on the ship’s upcoming cruise were consequently asked to arrive at Honolulu Harbor one day later than originally planned.

The Norwegian Spirit is scheduled to operate a 16-night cruise from Hawaii to Alaska, ending in Vancouver, Canada.

Its planned itinerary includes Kailua-Kona, Nawiliwili, Kahului, Icy Strait Point, Skagway, Sitka and Ketchikan.

The weather-related delays highlight how quickly tropical weather conditions can disrupt cruise schedules, particularly when ships are operating from or calling at ports in Hawaii.
