Carnival Study Shows Australians Go Batty for Halloween

By Cruise Booking Team

Halloween is growing bigger than ever in Australia, and Carnival Cruise Line is helping Australians celebrate in style. A recent study by the company found that 58 percent of Australian households now take part in the spooky season, showing a huge rise in popularity over the years.

To match this growing trend, Carnival Cruise Line offers Halloween-themed cruises every October from Sydney and Brisbane. These cruises promise a festive atmosphere with themed décor, parties, games, and entertainment for guests of all ages.

The cruises are packed with fun activities and surprises. Highlights include:

Sailings start at $444 per person, twin share, based on an interior cabin on a three-day “Getaway” cruise departing October 2026. These voyages offer families, friends, and couples a unique way to celebrate Halloween while enjoying a short holiday at sea.

The study also shows how Halloween has grown in Australia compared to past generations. Only 29 percent of adults remember celebrating the holiday as kids, but now it’s a cross-generational celebration. About 5 percent of Australians are planning to join the festivities for the first time this year.

Halloween is no longer just for families with children. Three-quarters of parents (74 percent) celebrate the holiday, and over half (53 percent) of adults without children now join in the fun. Younger Australians are particularly enthusiastic, with 75 percent of Millennials and 71 percent of Gen Z embracing the holiday.

Two-thirds of Australians (66 percent) feel that Halloween has become a bigger cultural moment in recent years. This growth is fueled by more events, decorations, themed experiences, and parties that make the season fun for everyone.

Popular activities include indulging in lollies and chocolate (35 percent), trick-or-treating (32 percent), decorating homes (27 percent), and dressing in costumes (27 percent). Households expect to spend an average of $970 on Halloween this year, with almost one-third planning to spend more than ever before.

The idea of celebrating Halloween at sea is also appealing. One in three Australians (33 percent) say they like the idea of a Halloween cruise, while 26 percent say a Halloween-themed holiday would inspire them to travel. Carnival Cruise Line offers a perfect opportunity for those looking for a unique and memorable way to mark the season.

With themed cruises from Sydney and Brisbane, Carnival is turning Halloween into a fun, family-friendly celebration at sea. From costume competitions and trick-or-treating to special guest appearances and surprises, these voyages have something for everyone.

Halloween in Australia is clearly on the rise, and Carnival Cruise Line is making it easier and more exciting for people to enjoy the spooky season, creating memories that guests will remember long after the cruise ends.
