MSC Cruises Sails to the Amazon River for the First Time

By Cruise Booking Team

Earlier this month, the MSC Poesia, a MSC Cruises vessel, navigated the Amazon River for its inaugural journey. This venture was a highlight of the 2024 global expedition, signifying the cruise line’s first foray into this Brazilian watercourse and introducing the ship to new locales within the area.
The journey commenced on March 9, with the vessel traversing the scenic vistas of the Amazon Forest, culminating in a stop at Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state, on March 13. After spending a night there, the cruise continued towards the Pará state, making stops at Alter do Chão on March 16 and Belém on March 18. The route also stopped at two operational halts in Fazendinha, located in the Amapá state, on March 11 and March 17.
This expedition marked MSC Cruises‘ pioneering visit to the northern parts of Brazil. Prior to this Amazon adventure, the MSC Poesia docked at several Brazilian maritime cities including Salvador and Rio de Janeiro.
The vessel, capable of accommodating 2,550 guests, embarked on a 120-night journey starting from Italy in early January and shall conclude in Germany in May. The itinerary is designed to cover 52 destinations across 31 nations and territories.
Following its Brazilian leg, the itinerary includes stops in the Caribbean, with visits planned to Barbados, the Bahamas, and the exclusive Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
During the 2023-24 winter season, a total of six MSC Cruises ships including MSC Seaview, MSC Preziosa, MSC Musica, MSC Lirica, and MSC Armonia have been operating in Brazil and South America, serving the national market since October and continuing until mid-April.
The MSC Grandiosa, which joined the regional fleet in November, stands out as the largest cruise ship stationed in Brazil.
