Norwegian Joy April 2027 Cruise Cancelled Due to Full-Ship Charter

Norwegian Cruise Line has officially cancelled a planned sailing onboard the Norwegian Joy that was scheduled to depart on April 12, 2027. The cruise line informed booked guests that the voyage will no longer operate because the ship has been reserved for a full-ship charter.

The cancelled sailing was planned as a five-night round-trip cruise departing from Port Miami. The itinerary included stops in the Bahamas and Mexico, giving passengers a short Caribbean getaway with beach destinations and relaxing sea days.

According to the original itinerary, guests were expected to visit Cozumel along with Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island destination in the Bahamas. The cruise also included two full days of sailing through the Caribbean Sea.

Guests to Receive Full Refund and Future Cruise Credit

Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed that all affected guests will receive a complete refund for the cancelled cruise. The company stated that refunds will automatically be processed back to the original payment method used during booking.

In addition to the refund, passengers will also receive a 10 percent Future Cruise Credit (FCC) as compensation for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation. The cruise line explained that the FCC can be used on any published Norwegian Cruise Line sailing through December 31, 2027.

The company acknowledged that the sudden cancellation may disrupt guests’ travel plans and said the additional cruise credit is meant to thank passengers for their understanding and patience during the process.

Alternative Cruises Offered From Miami

To help travelers rebook their vacations, Norwegian Cruise Line is also offering several alternative sailings departing from Miami around the same period.

One of the highlighted options is on board the Norwegian Viva, which will depart on April 13, 2027. This five-night itinerary includes visits to the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic while also featuring a stop at Great Stirrup Cay.

Another suggested option aboard Norwegian Viva departs on April 18, 2027. This longer seven-night cruise will sail to destinations in the Western Caribbean and the Bahamas, offering guests a more extended vacation experience.

Passengers were also offered a four-night Bahamas cruise onboard the Norwegian Getaway departing on April 12, 2027. Similar to the cancelled Norwegian Joy voyage, this sailing also includes a visit to Great Stirrup Cay.

These replacement options are designed to provide guests with similar Caribbean itineraries while maintaining departures from Miami for easier travel planning.

Norwegian Joy Heading to Alaska for Summer 2027 Season

After completing its charter commitment, Norwegian Joy is expected to reposition to the West Coast for its summer Alaska deployment.

The ship will join the Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Encore, and Norwegian Jade for Norwegian Cruise Line’s Alaska season.

During the summer of 2027, Norwegian Joy is scheduled to operate a series of seven-night Alaska cruises departing from Seattle. Alaska sailings remain one of the most popular cruise options in North America because of their glacier views, wildlife experiences, and scenic coastal routes.

Why Cruise Lines Cancel Sailings for Charters

Full-ship charter bookings are common in the cruise industry, especially for corporate events, music cruises, private organizations, and large travel groups. In these situations, an entire ship is reserved for private use, which can sometimes result in previously scheduled public sailings being cancelled.
