Costa Cruises is bringing its “Sea Destinations” concept to South America starting in early 2027, adding two new onboard experiences to sailings aboard the Costa Serena.
Per the company’s website, the 2007-built ship will host a pair of exclusive parties in Brazil as part of the program, available on its longer voyages connecting Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. The lineup includes stops tied to Rio de Janeiro and Balneário Camboriú.
The first, called “Baía de Camboriú,” is billed as an “ocean skyline party” held as the ship departs Balneário Camboriú. Costa says guests get a front-row view of the city’s skyscrapers during an event meant to blend glamour with what the line describes as authentic Brazilian energy.
The second, “Baía de Copacabana,” leans into what Costa calls the “Carioca sunset ritual.” The Serena will anchor off Copacabana beach in Rio during golden hour, with Sugarloaf Mountain, the beach’s skyline and the city lights setting the scene for what’s pitched as a shared celebration built around Rio’s sunset traditions, complete with Brazilian music and other extras.
Costa first rolled out Sea Destinations in early 2024 for its Mediterranean and Northern Europe itineraries, introducing onboard programming built around the places its ships visit — essentially a “voyage within a voyage” during stretches at sea between ports.
The Serena is one of two Costa ships in South America for the 2026-27 season, running cruises out of Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo. The 3,012-guest ship offers itineraries ranging from three to nine nights, with stops including Ilha Grande, Ilhabela and Punta del Este, plus a Copacabana call timed to the beach’s New Year’s fireworks show.
Joining it will be the Costa Diadema, also sailing the Argentina-Brazil-Uruguay region this winter. For most of the season, the 2014-built ship will run seven-night cruises calling at Santos, Itajaí, Montevideo and Buenos Aires, with passengers able to board at any of those ports.
