Great Stirrup Cay’s New Pier Hosts First-Ever Double Ship Call

Norwegian Cruise Line’s new pier at Great Stirrup Cay welcomed two ships at once for the first time this past weekend, a milestone the company celebrated in a recent social media post.

The operation, which Norwegian confirmed was a first for the private island, brought together the Norwegian Prima, currently sailing her first Caribbean summer, and the Norwegian Getaway. The Getaway, sailing out of PortMiami, was in the middle of a three-night weekend cruise to the Bahamas that also included a stop in Nassau. The Prima, meanwhile, was calling on Great Stirrup Cay as part of a seven-night itinerary out of Port Canaveral that began earlier this month, with additional stops in Puerto Plata, Tortola and St. Thomas.

The pier that made the double call possible opened in August 2026 as part of a broader set of upgrades underway at Great Stirrup Cay. Earlier this month, Norwegian also celebrated the opening of the island’s new Great Tides Waterpark, another piece of that enhancement project. The waterpark includes 19 slides, an 800-foot dynamic river, and several additional water features. Other recent additions to the island include Horizon Park, home to lawn games and pickleball courts, and Hammock Bay, which offers more than 50 hammocks for guests to relax in.

This past weekend’s double call won’t be a one-off. According to Cruise Industry News, Great Stirrup Cay has 30 more double calls scheduled through the end of the year, with the bulk of them falling during the 2026-27 winter season. One of the busiest days on the calendar is set for December 21, 2026, when the Norwegian Epic and Norwegian Getaway are both scheduled to call at the island on weeklong cruises out of Florida, bringing close to 8,500 passengers ashore.
