Holland America Line is launching a new program featuring two native Mexican Cultural Ambassadors aboard all Nieuw Amsterdam cruises during the 2025-2026 West Coast season.
According to a company statement, the initiative is designed to bring Mexican traditions, artistry, and flavors to life at sea. The ambassadors will guide interactive experiences, including dance classes, workshops, Spanish language sessions, and presentations on topics such as the Mayan Civilization and Mexico’s Day of the Dead. Activities also include Mexican Mambo, Salsa, and Cha-Cha lessons, piñata-making workshops, and instruction on crafting traditional symbols of protection.
Joe Chantry, vice president of entertainment and enrichment for Holland America Line, said: “From the moment guests step ashore in Mexico, they are immersed in a culture full of vibrant traditions and a deep sense of heritage, and we’re thrilled to bring that same spirit to life on board in a way that feels both authentic and immersive.”
“Our Cultural Ambassadors are popular on our Alaska cruises, and Mexico was an ideal region to expand the program and offer our guests another chance to connect more deeply with the people, traditions, and heritage of the country before they even step ashore,” Chantry added.
The program complements Holland America’s Destination Dining and shore excursions, emphasizing Mexico’s rich heritage. Guests sailing the 2025-2026 Mexico season will enjoy tequila tastings with Corazon Tequila from Jalisco’s highlands, plus dishes like Oaxacan lamb leg barbacoa and Azteca grilled shrimp with chipotle.
Through the Global Fresh Fish Program, fresh catches sourced within 48 hours from port to plate include grouper, cobia, red snapper, Pacific mahi-mahi, and yellowfin tuna.
