Holland America Line Launches Year-Round Europe Cruises

By CruiseBooking.com Editorial Team

Holland America Line is expanding its Europe deployment by introducing year-round cruising for the 2027–28 season. The cruise line confirmed that the Nieuw Statendam will remain in Europe throughout winter, offering new Mediterranean and Northern Europe itineraries. In addition, the Zuiderdam will operate two extra voyages as part of the expanded program.

The move marks a major shift for the cruise line, which traditionally operates Europe cruises during spring and summer. Guests will now have access to winter sailings that focus on smaller crowds, seasonal experiences, and cooler weather across some of Europe’s most popular cruise destinations.

New Winter Europe Cruise Itineraries for 2027–28

The expanded deployment includes a dozen cruises ranging from seven to 15 days across the Mediterranean, Baltic region, Canary Islands, and Greek Isles. Travelers can also combine select itineraries into longer Collectors’ Voyages lasting up to 24 days.

According to Paul Grigsby, vice president of deployment and itinerary planning for Holland America Line, Europe remains one of the cruise line’s strongest destinations because of its Dutch heritage and deep regional expertise. He explained that winter allows guests to experience Europe in a quieter and more immersive way, especially during the festive season and shoulder travel months.

Christmas Market Cruises From Rotterdam

One of the highlights of the new season is the addition of holiday cruises sailing round-trip from Rotterdam. These voyages focus on Europe’s famous Christmas markets and winter traditions.

Dec. 5, 2027, 13-day Baltic & Scandinavian Christmas Markets cruise visit destinations including Tallinn, Helsinki, Stockholm, and Copenhagen. The itinerary also includes overnight stays in Helsinki and Stockholm, giving guests more time to explore seasonal attractions and holiday shopping.

Another festive option begins Dec. 18, 2027, with a 15-day Baltic & Scandinavian Christmas Market Holiday cruise. Ports include Hamburg, Oslo, Bergen, and Stavanger, alongside scenic cruising through Hardangerfjord and the Elbe River.

Mediterranean Cruises With Smaller Crowds

The winter Europe season also introduces several Mediterranean itineraries designed for travelers looking for a more relaxed experience. Lower temperatures and reduced tourism levels can make sightseeing easier in major ports.

A 15-day Western Mediterranean cruise departing Nov. 20, 2027, sails round-trip from Rotterdam and visits destinations including Barcelona, Valencia, Cadiz, and Gibraltar.

On Jan. 16, 2028, guests can sail on a 10-day Mediterranean Splendor itinerary from Barcelona to Athens. Ports include Marseille, Naples, and Kotor.

Another notable itinerary is the Jan. 2, 2028, Canary Island Enchantment cruise, which sails from Rotterdam to Barcelona with stops in Casablanca, Agadir, Las Palmas, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Greek Isles Cruises Added to Winter Schedule

Holland America Line is also expanding winter cruise options in Greece and Turkey. The March 4, 2028, seven-day Greek Isles cruise sails round-trip from Athens and includes visits to Santorini, Rhodes, Bodrum, and Kusadasi.

The itinerary also features an overnight stay in Athens, giving guests additional time to explore the Greek capital before departure.

Holland America Strengthens Europe Cruise Market

The launch of year-round Europe cruising places Holland America Line in a stronger position within the premium cruise market. Demand for off-season travel continues to rise as travelers look for fewer crowds, lower airfare, and longer destination-focused experiences.

With extended Mediterranean cruises, holiday sailings, and Northern Europe itineraries, Holland America Line is broadening its Europe cruise offerings well beyond the traditional summer season.
