Silver Cloud Opens Cruise Season in Cartagena, Colombia

By Cruise Booking Team

Cartagena de Indias officially opened its 2023-24 season cruise on Oct. 6 with Silversea Expeditions’ Silver Cloud.

While traveling to Peru during a 15-night cruise to Lima, the expedition vessel made a stop at Cartagena’s Port Oasis Eco Park Cruise Terminal.

As part of the one-way itinerary, the vessel also visited remote ports in Panama, Ecuador and Jamaica.

This ceremony marked the beginning of the season at the port, with Colombia’s Minister of Transportation William Camargo attending.

During 2023-24, Cartagena can expect to receive 190 cruise calls.

There will be 30 cruise lines participating in the season, such as Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line and more.

There are a number of transit calls and homeporting operations on Royal Caribbean International this season.

Several seven-night cruises to the Southern Caribbean will be offered by the Rhapsody of the Seas starting in December.

Additionally, 12 new cruise ships will make their first visits to the city in 2023-24, including Carnival Vista, Celebrity Beyond, Regent’s Seven Seas Grandeur, Marella Discovery, and Silversea’s Silver Nova.

As MSC’s first ship of its new luxury brand, Explora Jurney’s Explora I launches in Cartagena this January for four visits.

During its 105-day summer voyage, the Peace Boat Pacific World will also stop at Colombian ports for the first time. The vessel departs from Japan and makes its way around the world, visiting destinations in Alaska, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Over 470,000 visitors, including more than 320,000 passengers and more than 150,000 crew members, are expected to arrive in Cartagena during 2023-2024, according to Port Oasis Eco Park.

An economic impact of over $50 million is also estimated as a result of the cruise operations.

In addition to the Silver Cloud, the Carnival Spirit stopped by Cartagena on Oct. 1. There are also Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas and Holland America’s Nieuw Amsterdam visiting the port this month.
